The Loft Youth Club

The Loft

We primarily cater for children from school year 3 (age 7) to school year 7 (age 12). We use the Chapel premises during the winter and take the opportunity of using the outdoor space in the better weather for football, badminton, swing ball and other outdoor games. Inside activities include table tennis, pool, table football, air hockey, Xbox and Wii gaming and crafting activities. The children have the option to just sit and chat with their friends should they choose. We run a popular tuck shop during the evening. We also have the occasional BBQ or evenings around a camp fire.

We have had an average attendance for 2023 of 27 children per session. Though mainly aimed at 7-12 year olds, we do now have a small group of older, 'High School' children who enjoy coming along and we welcome them.

There is a small charge each evening of £1.50 per child. This is payable on arrival.

The Club is staffed by Chapel volunteers and we're also very grateful to have some parents who assist with supervision duties. All staff are DBS checked and we adhere to the Baptist Union of Great Britain's child protection policy, 'Safe to grow'.

We were surprised and very pleased in 2022,  when the Primary School at Carleton Rode brought in some posters the children had made for us. They were of The Loft and the Chapel Café. They were excellent and were displayed in our windows.

the queue for the tuck shop

During one of our sessions the children adopted a new strategy to make sure they were at the front of the queue when the tuck shop opened, which is always an eagerly anticipated event. As you see from this picture, rather than stand they organised a line of seating and occupied themselves with 'word search' puzzles, until the appointed time!!!!

We would love to meet you at our friendly group, and you're very welcome to just pop along one evening when we're open and have a look around. Our leadership team and supervising volunteers will be delighted to speak with you.

Or you can contact me, Steven Halstead by email.
