Compassion UK and The Leprosy Mission

Compassion UKcompassion

Compassion is a leading children’s charity. For over 65 years, they’ve been giving children the opportunity to escape the suffering and fear that poverty brings. Their mission is to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name.

Working in partnership with local churches in developing countries, they link a child in critical need with a caring sponsor, often from churches such as Carleton Rode Baptist Church. Each sponsor enables Compassion to provide care for their sponsored child through every stage of their childhood. Various Carleton Rode Baptist Church members currently sponsor several children most of whom live in Kenya or Uganda. This includes a young man called Yeison from Colombia, who often sends as news and letters from his home which are shared during our services.

In June 2018, a young person from our church took part in a marathon in Kenya to raise money for Compassion UK.

The Leprosy Missionleprosy mission

Leprosy Mission is an international Christian development organisation that diagnoses, treats and offers specialist care, including reconstructive surgery, to leprosy patients. Their aim is to transform and empower the lives of people affected by leprosy.

Leprosy is a disease of poverty and as well as providing healthcare, The Leprosy Mission offers rehabilitation, education, vocational training, small business loans, housing, fresh water supplies and sanitation to tens of thousands of people each year. They provide a springboard to restored health, self-sufficiency and renewed hope. The services are provided regardless of religion or ethnicity, promoting equality and social justice.

Carleton Rode Baptist Church has been supporting Leprosy Mission for many years, particularly through the Ladies Fellowship. In 2017 we had visits from two representatives to tell us more about the latest work and projects needing our support.
